At the closing concert of this year’s festival, violinists Florence Malgoire and Amandine Solano, violists Markku Luolajan-Mikkola and Maija Lampela, and harpsichordist Laurent Stewart join forces as a BRQ Vantaa Ensemble. The programme promises a feast of French Baroque to the strains of François Couperin “Le Grand”. The title of the early trio sonata La Sultane is a reminder of the close relations between France and the Ottoman Empire. The international theme continues with works from the collection Les Nations: the trio sonata L’Espagnole and the ulta- French suite La Françoise. Also on the programme are the A major suite for two viols and figured bass and the “Royal Concerto” no. 7. The splendour and elegance of the Sun King’s court radiate from Couperin’s music, as do the spirit of the chaconnes and sarabandes and the tenderness of the instrumental arias.
