Samppa Laakso: Principali
The organ concert programme has been designed around the Pirincipal 8' stop of Tikkurila Church's organ and the music of Johann Kaspar Kerll. The instrument's tonal design is based on J. A. Zachariassen's Nordic Romantic organ, which offers a wealth of possibilities also for early music. Johann Kaspar Kerll (1627-1693) was a very popular musician and composer in his day, widely respected by both the public and his colleagues. Kerll's organ works represent the South German style and consist of solo organ works composed using keys traditional in church music. From Johann Sebastian Bach's vast organ output, the early Canzona is an interesting comparison with Kerll's canzonas. The form and style of the songs are similar, but the melodic language and mood are very different. The concert will also feature Bach's Trio Sonata in E minor. Another work to which the principals of the Tikkurila Church organ will lure you.
