The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is famously filled with emotional depth, technical virtuosity, and spiritual significance. The concert showcases father Bach's versatility and ability to address both the inner world of man and universal themes.
The cantata "Geist und Seele wird verwirret" BWV 35 reflects the complex relationship between faith and spirituality. In the cantatas "Lobet Gott in seinen Reichen" BWV 11 and "Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen" BWV 12, Bach's ability to handle contrasting emotions: celebration and sorrow, is brought to the fore. The concluding cantata of the concert, "Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust" BWV 170, offers a unique insight into Bach's view on the peace of the soul and its pursuit. This piece is a perfect example of how Bach used his music to express the deepest spirituality and the universal themes of human experience.
Norwegian star alto Marianne Beate Kielland and the international top ensemble BRQ Vantaa Ensemble convey the multifaceted depth of Bach's music in a nuanced and compelling way.
