Oblica Ensemble
Ensemble:
Eerika Perkkiö, traverso
Roope Jokinen, Baroque violin
Daniel Kivivuori, Baroque cello & viola da gamba
Jasper Koekoek, harpsichord
Founded in July 2023, the Oblica Ensemble was born from the need to explore early music together with motivated, curious young musicians. The members of the ensemble are Eerika Perkkiö (traverso), Roope Jokinen (violin), Daniel Kivivuori (cello) and Jasper Koekoek (harpsichord).
At the moment the ensemble focuses mainly on baroque repertoire. In August 2024 the members of Oblica will travel to Barcelona with financial aid from Culture Moves Europe, with the purpose of researching Catalan music tradition with local soprano Júlia Arquillo. Beside baroque music the ensemble's future projects will include music from the renaissance period all the way to the classical period.
The ensemble’s name derives from the latin word obliquus, standing for slanting, crooked, or not straightforward. That word describes the ensemble's approach to music; it is not always a straightforward process to prepare a program. For the musicians of Oblica the important thing is to find the characteristics of the music which remain unnoticed on the first look.
