Viola player Max Nyman graduated from the Sibelius Academy in spring 2020, after been taught by significant teachers such as violists Atte Kilpeläinen, William Coleman and Steven Dann, violinist Jari Valo and chamber pianist Timo Koskinen.
Max has had the pleasure of playing in the viola sections of Finland's most important orchestras, including the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Finnish National Opera Orchestra and the Avanti! chamber orchestra. From 2021 to 2022 he was a substitute in the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and a guest soloist in the Lapland Chamber Orchestra.
Max's heart beats for early music, and his performance practice has been taught to him by Minna Kangas and Kreeta-Maria Kentala, as well as Reinhard Goebel and Peter Langgartner at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Max performs on period instruments with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra FiBO and Ensemble Nylanda, among others.
Max is a founding member of the international Versoi Ensemble, which brings together young musicians from the Sibelius Academy and the Juilliard School in New York. With the ensemble, he has performed on Broadway, at the Dakota Building, UN Headquarters, Helsinki Music Hall, Kyrö Distillery, and with Osmo Vänskä and Anssi Karttunen, among others.
Max was able to delve into the world of brand new music at Karttunen and Magnus Lindberg's Creative Dialogue workshop in France in autumn 2021. In summer 2022 Max will perform at the Music By The Sea festival on Vancouver Island, Canada.
